Posted March 06, 2019 16:00:51The Australian National University Professor of Philosophy of Education Doug Collins has been charged with the alleged misuse of a computer system, and possessing child pornography, according to a police statement.
“Doug Collins has had his computer seized and a warrant has been issued for his arrest,” Assistant Commissioner Chris Graham said in a statement.
The 27-year-old is accused of “intentionally or recklessly” accessing the University of Western Australia’s computer system and making the “unlawful use of the computer”, the statement said.
“Collins has admitted to this and is being investigated by police,” it added.
The Australian Federal Police said Collins had been employed by the university since September 2016.
“It is believed Collins accessed the computer without permission from the university,” it said.
The university said it was working with police and the Department of Education.
The College of Philosophy is an academic and professional community for students in the humanities, social sciences and political sciences, with the aim of advancing knowledge and understanding of philosophy.
